Movement breaks can do more than fill time.

When movement is matched to what children’s brains and bodies need next, it can help them arrive ready to learn, transition more smoothly, recover after high-energy moments, and return to seated work with greater readiness.

In this practical 2-hour workshop, you will learn how to use movement breaks with purpose—not guesswork.

You will leave with a simple framework for recognizing what children may need in the moment and choosing movement that supports the next classroom demand: listening, writing, participating, transitioning, recovering, or re-engaging.

This workshop is for you if…

  • You want movement breaks that support learning—not just “get the wiggles out.”

  • You are seeing students struggle with attention, transitions, executive functions, emotional regulation, or seated work.

  • You want classroom-ready activities that require little to no preparation.

  • You are unsure whether a child needs energizing movement, calming movement, heavy-work/resistance input, rhythm, or a cognitive-motor challenge.

  • You want to support diverse learners with confidence while building movement naturally into the school day.

This workshop is designed for teachers, homeschool educators, paraprofessionals, school support staff, and other professionals who support children in educational settings.

What you will learn

Read the state before behavior escalates

Learn teacher-friendly ways to recognize under-arousal, over-arousal, attention fatigue, emotional overload, and signs that a child may need support before a behavior challenge grows.

Match movement to the next demand

Learn when to use activating, rhythmic, resistance, calming, and cognitive-motor movement—and how each type can prepare students for what comes next.

Build movement into the day with intention

Learn where movement fits naturally: arrival, before learning, during lessons, between tasks, after recess, following lunch, before writing, and when students need recovery or re-engagement.

Use developmental movement progressions

Explore how to build from foundational symmetrical and bilateral movements toward alternating patterns, midline work, crossing midline, coordination, and cognitive-motor challenges.

Recognize when to observe more closely

Learn signs that may suggest a child is not yet meeting motor milestones as expected, when movement patterns may warrant closer observation, and how to provide appropriate developmental movement opportunities in the classroom.

Imagine knowing what to do next.

Instead of reaching for the same movement break every time, you will be able to ask:

What does this child—or this group—need in order to access the next expectation?

Then you will have practical movement options to respond with confidence.

This is not about adding one more thing to your day. It is about using the natural movement already available in your classroom, playground, PE setting, and transitions more intentionally.
